About Victorian Custodial Officers
The Custodial Officers (COG) classification structure covers Corrections Victoria prison staff under Appendix 1 of the VPS Enterprise Agreement 2024. The structure maintains a rank system from COG 1 (Trainee) through COG 7 (Senior General Manager — Major Prison Facilities), with salaries based on 80-hour fortnights. Officers may also receive allowances for dog handling, emergency response group membership, and shift work.
Typical roles: prison officers, senior prison officers, prison supervisors, operations managers, general managers. Salary ranges run from $61,486 (COG 1 — Trainee) to $269,566 (COG 7 — SGM Major Facilities). All rates are from the VPS Enterprise Agreement 2024, effective 1 May 2025.
Superannuation: VPS employees receive 12% employer superannuation. The next salary increase of 3% takes effect 1 May 2026.
